Ripe Banana vs. My Art (But Not Really “Vs.”)

My paintings are where I go deep. They’re layered, personal, rooted in place and presence. When I paint, I’m chasing a feeling—of freedom, memory, quiet power. The work is meant to hold space on someone’s wall and in someone’s life. It’s original. Intentional. A reflection of how I see the world and myself moving through it.

Ripe Banana, on the other hand, is where I get to play. It’s still me, still rooted in culture and storytelling—but with more humor, more accessibility, and a little more attitude. While my paintings lean introspective, Ripe Banana is extroverted. It’s for the everyday moments. The quick grab-and-go inspiration. It’s the part of me that loves clever language, bold design, and turning cultural memory into something you can carry.

The two are connected. They share a spirit. Ripe Banana couldn’t exist without the foundation of my fine art practice. But they move differently in the world. My paintings are heirlooms. Ripe Banana is the remix.

You don’t have to choose. You can have both—the piece that hangs in your home and the tote that carries your groceries and your sense of self. One feeds the other. One grounds you. One goes with you. That’s the point.
